30 - Second Desk Tidy Up
By Suzanne McLoone
“I can’t stand working at a messy desk, it’s cluttered, it’s distracting, and quite frankly, I don’t want to work.” That is a comment I get more frequently than not when I’m organizing offices and who can blame them? Your desk is your domain and since you probably spend at least 9 hours a day living at it you shouldn’t cringe every time you open your eyes. You have already determined you most certainly do not want to continue living with a messy desk, the only thing left to decide on is how you go about cleaning it up.
How much time do you want to spend cleaning your desk?
How about 30 seconds? Yep, a half of a minute. In the time you spend contemplating answering another a call or trying to find the cell phone buried underneath a splattering of papers, you could be sitting at a beautiful and clean desk!
30-Second Desk Tidy Up
- Put all of the pens/pencils in your pencil cup or drawer.
- Remove all of the cups, soda cans, food wrappers, etc. from your desk and throw them in the trash.
- Throw away all of the empty, torn envelopes and junk mail.
- Put your receipts in your receipt envelope/file folder.
- All the papers you are working on right now, pile it up and place it to your left…or right, whichever is easiest.
- All of the other papers, stack and pile AWAY from your computer monitor.
Take a deep breath and enjoy a clean desk for at least a moment or two!
You are now on your way to clean and more productive day!
Happy Organizing!
