Business Blogging Summer

By Biana Babinsky

Many solopreneurs experience a slowdown in business during the summer months. This is something business owners expect and work into their business plans. Many clients and buyers take vacations during the summer and spend more time with their children and family and do not devote as much time to running their businesses.

What do you do when business slows down in the summer?

Many professionals I know take vacations themselves. However, some business owners take a block of several months off and are not able to market their businesses during the summer at all. As a result, their marketing pipeline is completely empty when they get back to business in the fall. They haven’t marketed or networked in three months, so they have to start filling up their pipeline from scratch.

Don’t do that. Do take some time off this summer, but remember to schedule time for marketing and promotion. This way, you will be able to start the fall with clients and profits.

So, what kind of marketing should you do this summer? I strongly recommend that you start your business blog and make this a Business Blogging Summer. Here is why:

- If you are just starting a blog, my recommendation is to post more than usual (every weekday) to establish your blog and get it indexed by the search engines. Start doing this now, so that by the end of the summer you will have an established blog. Then, as business picks up in the fall, you will be able reduce the frequency of posts to just a few a week and still have an established blog.

- It takes time for your blog to be indexed by search engines, so the sooner you start blogging, the sooner your blog will get indexed. Start blogging and make sure your blog posts are optimized for search engines.

- Get more clients. Many business owners stop marketing during the summer and stop filling up their pipeline. This is an excellent opportunity for you. Use your blog to market and show potential clients that you are available to help them. This will improve the chances that potential clients will find you instead of your competitors.

Remember to make this a Business Blogging Summer - you will get more traffic to your blog and web site and gain more clients as a result. This summer is the best time to start blogging!
