1. Plan the following day at the end of each day.
This is the time your mind is most clear. If you try to plan your day in the morning, you become distracted by your e-mail, your voicemail, the telephone, your employees, your customers, and so forth. It’s nearly impossible to think rationally about your priorities when you’re being pulled in 10 different directions.

It’s also a good idea to plan the following week at the end of each week, plan the following month at the end of each month, and plan the following year at the end of each year. Make this part of your regular routine. If you follow no other piece of advice on this list, follow this one. I guarantee you this simple change will increase your productivity more than you can imagine.

One of the questions most frequently asked of a professional organizer is “How do I deal with the papers that need to be filed in my home?” An example is an email I received today from a lady asking for me for help with her filing. She stated that she had taken the day off to catch up on her filing at home, which was sitting in piles on her floor. When she emailed me, it was 6:00pm and she still hadn’t touched the filing. She told me she didn’t know where to start.

I was working with a client who had recently been diagnosed with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD or ADD). She went on to say that she was happy she had ADHD because now she had a built in excuse to be disorganized. Certainly people with ADHD have trouble being organized but is it an excuse?

If you are like many people with Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD or ADD) you find getting organized a constant struggle. You push yourself to spend time and energy “cleaning up”, then, within days or hours, it looks like nothing was done and worse it is impossible to find anything. You are right back where you started from.

How do you put something away so that you are able to find it again? How do you put something away so that when you take it out to use it you can put it back where it belongs?
