Q. Is there any way to make life with 2 young children run more smoothly?

A. Yes, set up a daily schedule and keep to it as much as possible.

A schedule provides structure. “When structure speaks, children listen.” By providing a simple daily schedule, you help your child to feel secure. It provides consistency. “Out of clutter, find Simplicity.
From discord, find Harmony.
In the middle of difficulty lies Opportunity.”
– Albert Einstein

Many who come to me for help feel their lives (or some parts of them) are difficult, cluttered, and discordant. Worse, they feel guilty because they can’t “balance” all the parts of their lives.

Don’t feel bad. You can balance a clock, car wheels, and sometimes a seesaw, but it’s hard to balance a life. And if you could, would you really want to?

When you call 911 because there is a distinct and suspicious odor in the neighborhood and the culprit turns out to be two pairs of sneakers, three pairs of underwear and a dozen or more hotdog remnants of unknown origin and vintage found under your child’s bed, it’s past time to get your child’s room organized! When your child has gotten lost for hours in the mounds of clutter trying to find his way from the bed to the door, it’s past time to teach your child to organize himself! It is 6:00 AM…you have already hit the snooze button twice and are dreading the morning marathon that lies in front of you. Making sure everyone is dressed and ready for school is enough of a process, especially when everyone is bleary-eyed (and oh-so cheery) at the very beginning of the day. Soon the chaos begins… “Mom, where are my shoes?” “I can’t find my homework!” “Did you sign my field trip form?” Everyone is scurrying around trying to get ready while you are sweating over being late…again.

A woman that I recently worked for had a real mess in her home, at least SHE though so. She woke up one morning and could not find anything that she was looking for. By the time that she placed the call and I answered the phone, she was a jumble of nerves, crying and thought she was a totally disorganized lousy homemaker.

Believe me; this scenario is replayed more times than you may think. We get so overwhelmed in life that we don’t realize that our world is turning to clutter until one fine day when we are totally lost. Then it hits us, “I need the help of a Professional Organizer”!

We all run out of storage areas in our home, it doesn’t make any difference if you have a small efficiency apartment or a large 2500 square foot home. Do you know that you have a lot more room than you thought you did to store things and still be able to keep things organized?

Getting Started:

1. Look at the all-over picture of your home or hire a professional organizer

Go through every room and decide what it is that you want to do with that room and write it down.

2. See if you can find any hidden storage areas in your room

Decide if you want to add another shelf in the closet, use the storage space on the inside of a door, maybe use under the bed storage.
