Eat your frog? By now you’re wondering if I’ve gone stark raving mad! No, I’m not mad.
I first learned of this principle from Brian Tracy.
Your frog is the most important task of the day. It is the one thing which, if done quickly and effectively, will ensure your greatest success.

Life is such a whirlwind, isn’t it? If you’re anything like me, it often seems like the weeks go by in a blur of activity…and then it’s weekend again. Or the weekends go by so quickly and when Monday comes around, you feel like you’ve just started to relax and the week is upon you once again.
The problem with this is that we never have a sense of peace, calm and control. A feeling that we are directing the course of our own lives.

It’s not uncommon to set goals when a new year begins, and for many people, these goals involve getting organized. Unfortunately, it’s not as simple as waking up on January 1 and being organized from that moment on.
In the past, you may have worked hard to clear the clutter from your desk or to purge outdated documents from your paper and electronic files, only to find yourself plagued by these same problems within a few months, or even weeks. This likely occurred because in your enthusiasm to get organized, you jumped into the project without taking the time to thoroughly evaluate your situation and develop a strategy.

Now that the new year is here, many of us are struggling to hold onto our usual new year’s resolutions. Have you noticed that most of the time resolutions add to your “to-do” list rather than simplifying your life? Why not making a resolution to simplify your life instead? Do you often feel overwhelmed with things to do, places to be? You enjoy being productive but feel frantic during the day? You are organized and live by your to-do list and yet this chore list seems to get longer rather than shorter? Do you know a lot of people but often wonder why there doesn’t seem to be any time for deep connections? Simplifying one’s life means just that, letting go of certain habits, conventions, or actions that don’t serve you in creating more meaning in your life, and then using that energy to create connections, peace and a sense of gratitude.

Every year at this same time we all experience the same ritual. We assess how we did during the year. First we look at our bigger goals and that’s the easy part. We either hit our goals or we didn’t and we all feel differently about our success. The more difficult part is when we look at our subtle or personal goals which include our relationships, our food choices, our spiritual practices and a myriad of other possibilities. And of course this brings us to the New Year.
In the beginning of the year we are enthusiastic about beginning anew. There is a power and determination that we only experience once a year. We might implement a healthy body program which includes diet and exercise, or we might renew our business or relationship goals.

What would January be without personal commitments for change? It’s a chance for a fresh start! With the promise of a new year before us, we believe that anything is possible.
Yet, all too often February can bring a familiar refrain of resolutions not kept and promises broken.
What can you do this year to change this pattern and ensure your resolutions have staying power?

1. Take Small Steps
If you make too many resolutions it can be very overwhelming and even more disappointing if you don’t reach your goals. Make a list of 2-3 simple tasks that you can work on right away (start eating breakfast, taking a walk after dinner, drinking more water). Once you have done them consistently for a week, add 2 more things to your list (take a tour of the local gym, make a healthy shopping list) Making your resolutions more manageable with make you feel more successful.

Does this sentence ring true for you?
“I start out very excited about my creative goals or projects, but find myself becoming bored or disinterested before they’ve been carried to fruition.”

One of the biggest mistakes you can make in your business is in the way you set your goals. To say “our goal is to increase sales” is too vague and ambiguous. You need to get down to specifics so that you have something tangible to act on. Only in this way can you accomplish your goals successfully and know when they have been achieved.
